IFS Food

The international food standard was created in 2003 by representatives of the European food retail and specifically designed for the food industry, which supply private label products to retailers. The requirements have been defined by the HDE (German retail Association) and FDE (Federation of Enterprises and Distribution).

The IFS is based on the recognized quality management standard DIN EN ISO 9001:2008, and includes the principles of good manufacturing practice (cleaning, disinfection, pest control, maintenance and training) and HACCP. The current version also includes the up-to-date EU legislation in terms of dealing with allergenic and genetically modified organisms (GMO’s).

Certification according to the IFS food standard is exclusively possible for companies which „process“ products or where there is a risk of product contamination in the repackaging.

This means that it is not possible to certify pure trading companies.
